6 killed in Sinai bombing on police station

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Six people were killed and 15 others injured in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula after a suicide bomber rammed a car filled with explosives into the main gate of el-Arish police station on Wednesday morning.

Local sources told Ma’an that three police officers and three civilians were among those killed. All of those injured were evacuated to a public hospital in el-Arish sources added.International media reported that a military group affiliated with the Islamic State claimed the attack.

The group known as Sinai Province aligned with the Islamic State last November and has been responsible for ongoing attacks against Egyptian military and police.

The attacks initially began to increase after Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi took power from democratically-elected Mohammad Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood in 2013.

The Egyptian president came under attack following his violent suppression of Muslim Brotherhood members following his rise to power which Sisi has argued is necessary to deter future attacks in the Sinai and across Egypt.
