Turkey: CHP figure calls for emergency meeting

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) A high-profile member of Turkey’s largest opposition party has called for an emergency meeting following its disappointing result in the Nov. 1 parliamentary elections.

Former Republican People’s Party's (CHP) lawmaker Umut Oran released a statement on Wednesday saying: "Faced with this outcome [Kemal] Kilicdaroglu [CHP leader] should convene an extraordinary congress on his own without losing any time and he should refresh immediately the confidence of the people."

Oran also claimed that the CHP administration was responsible for the electoral defeat adding: "I am ready to take any kind of duty and responsibility to make the CHP [govern] alone in power."

After the election there was an ongoing discussion whether CHP leader Kilicdaroglu should resign.

Gursel Tekin CHP secretary-general said at a press conference on Tuesday: "There is no problem in question that requires our chairman's resignation."

Tekin also said the party will probably hold a congress in February.
