Interior minister meets Australian immigration minister

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Interior Minister Salamah Hammad on Tuesday held talks with Australian Minister for Immigration and Border Protection, Peter Dutton, on the prospect of Canberra providing more aid to Jordan as it endures the humanitarian repercussions of the Syrian crisis.

Hammad said a political solution to the Syrian crisis would avert further bloodshed and stop the cycle of violence in the country.

Throughout its history, Hammad said, Jordan had been exposed to wave after wave of refugees that had impacted its internal political and socio-economic conditions, stressing that the Kingdom had not closed its doors to anyone seeking peace, security and a decent life. He said this humanitarian undertaking had been a key feature of the country.

The meeting also dealt with the possibility that Australia takes in Syrian refugees, and that Dutton promised to do so according with the procedures applied in the country in this regard.
