Suicide bombing kills three policemen in Egypt's Sinai

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Three policemen were killed Wednesday in a suicide bombing in Egypt’s volatile Sinai Peninsula a security source said.

A suicide bomber struck his vehicle into a security barrier outside a police club in the North Sinai city of Arish the source was quoted as saying by the official MENA news agency.

Five policemen and five civilians were also injured in the attack the source added.

Wednesday’s attack was swiftly claimed by the Daesh-linked Welayet Sinai (Province of Sinai) militant group.

The group claimed in a statement circulated on Twitter that the attack had left scores of people dead and injured.

Egyptian authorities have yet to comment on the attack.

Since the 2013 ouster of President Mohamed Morsi in a military coup the northern Sinai Peninsula has become the epicenter of a deadly insurgency against Egyptian security personnel.

In recent months the Province of Sinai has claimed responsibility for a spate of deadly attacks on Egyptian security forces.
