UAE- Man kills mom lives with corpse for days

A 29-year-old Emirati allegedly murdered his mother believing she practised witchcraft. The police discovered the decomposed body only after they went to his flat to make him fetch money to pay for some items he stole from a supermarket at knife point.

The defendant has admitted before the presiding judge in a Sharjah court to committing the murder. He had slit his mother's throat twice and cut her tongue out.

The police found the body in the defendant's flat in Al Nakhla Tower in Al Mamzar area on June 7.

On the day the police received a call from the owner of a supermarket in the area who said the defendant went to the shop and stole items at knife point. The police arrested the defendant and escorted him to his flat so that he could fetch money to pay for the items.

Outside his flat the police got a bad smell. On searching the flat the police discovered the partially decomposed body.

The deceased was a Danish citizen of Lebanese origin.

During interrogation the defendant told the police his aunt had called him from Lebanon informing him that his mother was practising witchcraft. He claimed to have found some papers that "proved" she was practising it.

He told the police that he kept his hand over his mother's mouth as she slept and slit her throat. He told the police he was fully aware of what he did and had no regrets.

He continued staying in the flat with the body inside.

The building's watchman said the defendant had been staying in the flat with his mother for four years.

According to a medical report the man is not mentally ill.

The Sharjah Public Prosecution has urged the court to impose the strictest penalty on the defendant.
