RasGas first in world to deploy GE's APM solution for LNG sector

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) RasGas has led the industry with the first global deployment of GE's Asset Performance Management (APM) solutions, powered by 'Predix', as a pilot, created specifically to meet the needs of the LNG sector.
RasGas has become the first global LNG customer to leverage the Predix Cloud, the world's first and only cloud-based solution designed specifically for industrial data and analytics. This LNG-focused solution is projected to extend the life of RasGas assets. It will also lower operating costs through greater efficiencies and optimise product chain across RasGas assets.
Marking the "effective integration" of big data and advanced analytics, the path-breaking solution will support process optimisation across RasGas operations.
It will capture and analyse the unique volume, velocity and variety of machine data within a highly secure, industrial-strength cloud environment, leading to higher reliability in operation and optimising resource use efficiency.
The application of APM solutions is expected to meet a current gap in the LNG industry, whereby raw data is currently isolated and at different locations. The accumulated information from several years of operation in various locations can now be integrated to strengthen predictive and corrective capabilities. Serving as a one-stop optimised solution, it benefits the LNG sector in scaling up its efficiencies and productivity to meet the future growth goals of RasGas.
Fahad Mohamed al-Khater, RasGas chief operations officer said, "At RasGas, we are continuously exploring opportunities to enhance our operational efficiency by leveraging the latest in technology innovation. The efficient utilisation of big data enables us to monitor our resources effectively and identify challenges even before their onset to drive growth."
GE chief digital officer Bill Ruh said, "Powered by Predix, our APM solutions help unlock the potential for productivity gains by our customers through highly efficient production cycles. The introduction of our first APM solution for the LNG sector with RasGas, a global pioneer in the LNG industry, demonstrates the organisation's keen commitment to be a leader in adopting next generation technologies today. Beyond the technology gains, the solution will also enhance the entire value chain - promoting innovation and growth."
The collaboration between RasGas and GE also fosters a culture of localised innovation by bringing automated systems and platforms that will strengthen the skills of Qatari technical professionals. GE's global workforce will support the Qatari professionals through knowledge sharing sessions. It is also aligned with the Qatar National Vision 2030 by promoting sustainable development through lower carbon dioxide emissions, further contributing to the cost optimisation initiatives of RasGas.
