Russian airstrikes reportedly kill 16 civilians in Homs


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Sixteen civilians were killed in a Russian airstrike on a bakery shop in Homs, central Syria, on Monday, a monitoring group and news service reported.
Russian military jets carried out the strikes while a number of civilians were waiting in the line to get bread from the bakery shop killing 16 of them and injuring others, Sham News network and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said.
Russia sent warplanes to Syria at the request of the regime in Damascus to strike terrorist groups like so-called ISIL and Al-Qaeda affiliates.
The Russians and Syrians did not react.
Meanwhile, a Syrian military source said Russian airstrikes have destroyed 237 targets over the past 48 hours in the governorates of Hama, Latakia, Homs, Aleppo, Raqqa and Damascus.
The source was quoted by the Syrian News Agency (SANA) as saying Russian air force carried out 131 sorties over the past 48 hours, destroying 17 command center, seven ammunition depots, 22 artillery positions and training camps, and 189 hideouts.
The Syrian army is also cracking down on armed groups, he said.
