Second Annual Abu Dhabi Strategic Debate concludes

ABU DHABI 2nd November 2015 (WAM) --- Some 300 policymakers experts and academicians from 40 countries on Monday concluded the Second Annual Abu Dhabi Strategic Debate organised by the Emirates Policy Centre in collaboration with the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Atlantic Council USA to address a wide array of strategic issues and present ideas on foreign policy and security issues.

In the closing session President of the Emirates Policy Centre Dr. Ebtisam Al Ketbi outlined the conclusions reached during the two-day debate. She thanked H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foreign Minister and Dr. Anwar bin Mohammed Gargash Minister of State for Foreign Affairs for supporting the debate.

In the nine sessions of the debate participants sought to contribute to the advancement of our understanding of future trends in international politics and to the development of actionable policy recommendations.

The topics of the debate included geopolitical shifts the changing nature of the world order new forms of terrorism and extremism strategic shocks and the global futures and regional security issues with a special focus on current and emerging challenges of strategic interest to Arab region.

Other topics included transformation and challenges in the Arabian Gulf region the influence of Iran and Turkey the Arab-Israeli conflict the nuclear deal with Iran and lifting of sanctions as well as the approaches taken by the United States and other countries in dealing with the situation in the Middle East.
