King meets with Ma'an tribal figures, dignitaries

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) His Majesty King Abdullah II, on Sunday, met with a number of tribal figures, dignitaries and community leaders from the southern Ma'an governorate for a discussion on a wide range of issues pertaining to public services and development projects in the governorate.

The King told the meeting that it was the responsibility of all state's officials to work for further development of the southern governorate and improve public services as soon as possible. The meeting, part of non-stop efforts by His Majesty the King to reach out to all communities across the Kingdom and learn firsthand about their needs and grievances.

King Abdullah emphasized the importance of establishing a land port project and railway network to strike a link between Ma'an and Aqaba with the aim of providing job opportunities for young men and women alike. In this context, His Majesty noted that he had ordered the government to speed up the implementation of these projects and set aside financial allocations for them in the 2016 budget.

Speaking on challenges facing the city, the King said: "It's the responsibility of all to address security, political and economic issues together so we can resolve these problems." The King reiterated that combating poverty and unemployment in a collective fashion is the top domestic priority.

His Majesty added that southern governorates will be prioritized in terms of projects to help provide jobs to the local communities. He called for additional support to agriculture and livestock projects in a manner to reduce costs.

While underlining the importance of launching and attracting investments, the King explained that training Ma'an's youths on a host of professions is a strategic objective for him, emphasizing the need to invest in the Jordanian citizen and his/her capabilities.

Turning to regional issues, the King spoke about the recent developments in Jerusalem and said the Kingdom will follow up on Israel's stances with regards to the issue of geographical and time-based division of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, saying this issue is a "red line" for Jordan.

"When I talk about the Al-Haram al-Sharif, I mean 144 donumms. This is a clarification so there will be no confusion over the Jordanian stance in this regard," the King said.

The King also spoke about the Syrian crisis which he said it can be resolved through a political solution only, noting that the priority now is protecting the Kingdom's northern and eastern frontiers.

He pointed out that he spoke about this issue - protecting the Kingdom's borders - with the Russian president more than once.
