Saudi- The enemy within

(MENAFN- Arab News) This is with reference to the report 'Al-Jubeir: Yemen war in final stage' (Nov. 1). It is sad to note that former Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh and the Houthis sold the interests of their country and countrymen for staying a few days in power. Had the Kingdom not intervened in Yemen the crisis would have spilled over to the Kingdom and to other neighboring countries. The struggle that had started against the corrupt practices of Saleh and his cronies was conveniently hijacked by Iran thanks to the enemies within.

They were ready to present Yemen to Iran in a platter. Tehran used the internal strife to promote its ugly sectarian agenda. Those in the Arab world colluding with Iran and other anti-Arab forces don't realize that they are just being used as pawns in a greater game. Once they outlive their utility they will be thrown away like used tissue papers. Saleh is an ungrateful person. He did not even think twice before spitting venom against Saudi Arabia. He easily forgot the brotherly gesture of the Kingdom when Riyadh helped him receive treatment for severe burns in the country. As for the Houthis they don't have the moral authority to rule Yemen. This small ragtag army of thugs tried to impose itself on the country with the help of Iran. Houthis don't even represent the larger Shiite population in Yemen.

Fortunately Saudi Arabia's swift action in Yemen foiled Iranian attempts to gain a stronghold in the Kingdom's backyard. People oblivious of the dynamics of international politics can never understand the aims of this intervention. Pervez Jamil Jeddah
