Doha: After five defeats and a draw Qatar Sports Club finally collected their first win at the Qatar Stars league (QSL) with a 2-0 victory over Mesaimeer on a dramatic day at Al Ahli Stadium yesterday.

The win for Qatar SC coincided with the return of coach Sebastiao Lazaroni who was appointed after a poor start which saw the club parting ways with coach Radhi Shenaishil.

It was the first match for the Brazilian in his new stint with the Qatar SC.

However it was not an easy win for Qatar SC as Mesaimeer showed a lot of resistance in the best part of the match.

The winners could score their first goal in the 75th minute with Mousa Majid Allaq giving the welcome breakthrough.

Mouhssine Iajour sealed the victory by netting the ball in injury time.

Earlier in a dramatic match hosts Al Ahli SC recorded a narrow victory over Al Khor thanks to an own goal by Al Khor’s Moustafa Jalal in the 77th minute.

They are now in sixth place with 11 points seven behind Al Rayan.

Meanwhile Al Khor remain in 13th position with two points. The win is also Al Ahli’s second in a row after beating Qatar SC 3-0 last week.

In today’s matches Al Gharafa will meet Umm Salal Lekhwiya face Al Rayyan while Al Sadd will take on Al Arabi.

Al Sadd coach Hussein Ammouta has warned his team of mistakes as the football giants meet an ‘improved’ Al Arabi in the seventh round of the Qatar Stars League at Lekhwiya Stadium today.

Ammouta described the upcoming encounter as a tough clash saying his team will have to be at best against their counterparts.

“Arabi - Sadd have always been tough games. This season it will be stronger. It’s an important game” said the Al Sadd coach.

“Arabi have had a good start and are playing in a more organised fashion. Simply put the team that will play better will win” he added. Ammouta said: “The challenge is there when we play against a good team. All players like such games. The motivation is there. But we can’t take too much pressure. We will give our maximum. If you make any mistakes against big teams then it will cost you.”

Al Sadd’s players echoed his coach’s comment.

“It will be a tough game. We have known this all season. We are playing for all the titles on offer. We have the experience of playing such important games. We hope the fans will come and enjoy this battle” he said.

“This match remains the great derby as it was before. Arabi have changed a lot this season. And we expect it to be a keenly-contested affair” he added. Al Arabi’s coach Gianfranco Zola hoped his team will continue a good show of form against the former champions.

“This is the third game of three difficult fixtures that we knew we were going to play.”
