(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) Bogota Muharram 16 1437 October 29 2015 SPA -- President Juan Manuel Santos of Colombia said Wednesday he is confident he will be able to declare a cease-fire with FARC rebels beginning January 1 if the fifth and final agenda point at peace negotiations is completed.
The government and leaders of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) have concluded three of five agenda points during negotiations in Havana Cuba to end more than a half-century of armed conflict. The peace talks began in late 2012.
The FARC the biggest of Colombia's rebel groups called a unilateral cease-fire in July.
'From now until December 31 we will make the effort so that for example we could finish point five' Santos told reporters in Bogota. 'And that way declare a bilateral and internationally verifiable cease-fire from January 1.'
