Optimal Payments to investigate breach allegations


(MENAFN- ProactiveInvestors)Optimal Payments (LON:OPAY) has opened an investigation into allegations that customers' personal details were breached and made public. The allegations relate to a possible data breach in 2011 at its Neteller subsidiary and attacks in 2012 on its newly-acquired Skrill business known then as Moneybookers. The allegations do not specify the exact date on which the data breaches were said to have occurred. The company said it has been made aware by media enquiries that a small amount of customers' personal data is now in the public domain. 'In light of the information above the company has commenced an investigation into this matter and the veracity of the allegations' the Optimal said. It has been alleged that the data is part of a larger amount stolen. Optimal said it knew of two previous breaches in 2009 and 2010 when an investigator found that the breach at Neteller was not material and that no customers lost money. While investigators were unable to determine whether the Moneybookers breach was material Optimal again said no customers were financially affected. Shares dropped 32p or 9.3% to 315p. Cyber attacks have become a headline topic recently after telecoms firm TalkTalk (LON:TALK) warned last week that some of its customer data may have been stolen. This week a fifteen year old boy in Northern Ireland was arrested in connection with the attack. Shares in cyber security firms made further gains this morning with Corero Networks (LON:CNS) gaining 1.8% to 14.2p while Eckoh (LON:ECK) also nudged higher.
