Kuwait- Freak rains wreak havoc in country

(MENAFN- Arab Times) It was an unusual day in the State of Kuwait on Wednesday, as most parts of the country experienced thunderstorms with torrential rainfall that resulted in floods in many areas to such an extent that some schools, institutes and universities were closed down. Accidents that occurred at various locations during the storm resulted in the death of a Kuwaiti citizen and injuries to eight individuals, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

According to Director General of Kuwait Fire Service Directorate Lieutenant General Yousef Al-Ansari, the accidents occurred on the Sixth Ring Road and Jahra Highway.

Large puddles of water prevented many residents from exiting their areas. About 210 complaints were received at the Control Room through the hotline number 112, and traffic officers, firefighters and paramedics dealt with those complaints.

Floods affected the signal intersections in some areas, particularly in Block 8 in Taima area, Adan and Sabah Al-Salem intersection, Al-Ru'ya and Al-Ghous intersection, Fourth Ring Road and Damascus Street intersection towards Salmiya, and the area opposite Andalous along Jahra Road. Meanwhile, areas surrounding some public hospitals were flooded due to which people were scared of going out.

Congestion was experienced inside many of the hospitals especially Jahra and Al-Razi Hospitals. Director of Jahra Hospital Dr. Ghalib Al-Basis declared that the workflow in the hospital was in order, affirming that the rain did not disrupt the system and the hospital did not incur any losses inside. He revealed that, when water began to flow from under the main gate into the hospital due to the puddles outside the hospital, officials from Ministry of Public Works were contacted immediately and they dealt with the matter within a short period, after which work inside the hospital resumed.
