Arab Transport Ministers' council meets in Egypt


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Council of Arab Transport Ministers held its 28th session Wednesday at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) in Egypt's Mediterranean city of Alexandria.
Lebanese Minister Ghazi Zeaiter, meeting's president, stressed the need to find solutions to all problems and difficulties facing the Arab transport sector in order to achieve efficiently the mission of developing trade of Arab countries and support their exports without any obstacles.
The system of Arab transport needs implementing technical solutions and ambitious practices that may make a large amount of economic and social revenues, he told the conferees.
He also underlined the necessity of investing in roads and ports, and linking roads and railways among Arab countries without logistic measures or technical obstacles.
He called for carrying out an integrated system to maintain safety and security, and avoid disasters, stressing the need for joint action in order to make better results in transport on all levels.
On his part, Egypt's Minister of Transport and head of Executive Bureau Saad Al-Geyoushi said that despite Arab countries' interest in this sector due to its key role in development, it is still suffering from obstacles that prevent achieving better efficiency.
Al-Geyoushi stressed his country's great keenness on implementing what contributes to boosting relations among Arab countries, noting that his ministry is working hard to link Arab countries through land, sea, and air transport, address all difficulties and facilitate all measures.
Qatari Transport Minister Jassem Al-Sulaiti said that the meeting discussed all obstacles facing transport sector in all Arab countries, hoping that all Arab proposals and experiences would benefit all efforts aiming to develop the sector.
The success of the last session can be added to a series of accomplishments chalked up by the council of Arab transport ministers which pays attention to transport, which is a vital sector, he said.
