Jordan, EU discuss the impact of the Syrian crisis on Jordan


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Imad Fakhoury discussed with Managing Director for Middle East and North Africa at the European External Action Service Nicholas Westcott, means to adopt a comprehensive approach to deal with the repercussions of the Syria crisis.

Proposals that have been discussed during the meeting aim to develop programs to enable Jordan to bear the burden resulting from hosting Syrian refugees and acquire grants to address this issue.

They also aim at attracting investments to generate job opportunities and setting up projects to employ citizens in communities affected by Syrian refugees.

The EU official is expected to discuss with a number of officials cooperation between Jordan the EU and means to further boost it within the European Neighborhood Policy and Jordanian-European partnership relations.

Fakhoury spoke about the 2016-2018 Jordan Response Plan (JRP) concerning Syrian refugees, which was launched by the prime minister, as well as the need to support this plan to enable Jordan to deal with requirements of hosting the Syrian refugees.

Westcott voiced understanding of the burden borne by Jordan as a result of hosting a large number of Syrian refugees and their impact on host communities.

He said he would present ideas proposed by Jordan to EU officials in Brussels to consider ways to increase support to Jordan in the coming days.
