PM calls for accelerating work of the Governorates Development Fund


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour stressed the importance of accelerating and developing work of the Governorates Development Fund (GDF) due to its importance in addressing the problems of poverty and unemployment.

Ensour, who chaired part of the ministerial economic development committee that discussed progress of work, stressed the need for concerted efforts to ensure the success of the fund, which was established upon the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II to achieve genuine development in governorates across the Kingdom.

The economic objective behind establishing this fund, he added, is to contribute to financing Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises that would help in developing governorates, noting that the government is committed to supporting the fund to ensure its success.

Chief Executive Officer of the Jordan Enterprise Development Corporation (JEDCO) Hana Uraidi, presented a briefing on the role of the fund in supporting productive projects that provide new job opportunities in all governorates.

She said that the number of projects, whose financing have been approved since July 2012 until July 2015, stood 92 with an investment volume of JD124 million, noting that the fund's contribution reached JD58 million.

Uraidi said that these projects are expected to create 2800 job opportunities.
