Iraq, Germany discuss war on terror


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Iraq's Prime Minister Haidar Al-Abadi held talks with Germany's Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen in the Iraqi capital Monday, discussing the anti-terrorism file.
The two sides also addressed ways to bolster bilateral cooperation in security, military, and intelligence fields, in addition to the war on the Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL), Al-Abadi's office said in a statement.
They also stressed the importance of providing support for the Iraqi army, particularly in the training and arming fields, the statement said, adding that the Iraqi-German sides also tackled situation developments in the region, as well as Iraq's political, security, economic, and financial challenges.
Meanwhile, the German Minister reiterated her country's support of Baghdad in the war on terror, praising the Iraqi Premier's role in embodying the national unity among all Iraqis.
Earlier, von der Leyen met with Iraqi President Fuad Masum and Parliament Speaker Salim Al-Jabouri in Baghdad.
