France, Lebanon vow greater cooperation against terrorists


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Visiting French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve stated Monday that his country and Lebanon are keen on forging ahead with their strategic cooperation to counter the growing threat of terrorist groups.
In a press conference with his Lebanese opposite number Nouhad Machnouk, Cazeneuve said French and Lebanese security agencies are coordinating anti-terror efforts and exchanging relevant intelligence information around the clock.
He described the security cooperation between the two countries as "ideal." Cazeneuve underlined the importance of firm, swift and pre-emptive actions in tackling the terror threats.
He also lauded Lebanon's role in hosting hundreds of thousands of the war-traumatized Syrian refugees.
France would allocate USD 44 million to support the humanitarian action to help refugees in Lebanon in the coming two years, he said.
For his part, the Lebanese minister praised the deeply-rooted and special relations between Lebanon and France.
He confirmed the existence of high-level cooperation in security issues between the two friendly countries.
