(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Interior Minister Salamah Hammad, Monday, said that Jordan has received only 38 percent of the funds required to cover the needs of the Syrian refugees based on UN estimates in this regard.
The minister made his comments while meeting head of the Jordanian-French Parliamentary Friendship Committee at the French senate, Christine Kamerman, and French ambassador to Jordan David Bertolotti.
Besides discussing the impact of the Syrian refugees on Jordan, both sides also tackled ways to counter terrorism and extremism, as well as bilateral cooperation in the policing and security fields.
Hammad highlighted services provided by Jordan to 1.4 million Syrian refugees, including education, health, security, water, electricity and accommodation.
Moreover, Hammad called on the international community and donors to shoulder their responsibility towards host countries through establishing productive ventures that would ease the growing pressure on host countries' vital sectors.
Kamerman said the ongoing events in the Middle East region, especially the Syrian crisis is a globally " worrying " issue, especially for Jordan, which hosts a large number of refugees.
she said that Paris has decided to strengthen control procedures over its institutions, especially its intelligence agencies due to terrorist attacks that hit her country at the beginning of this year.
The French ambassador called for further cooperation with Jordan to serve the common interests of both countries.
