UAE chairs meeting of senior Arab social affairs officials

CAIRO 25th October 2015 (WAM) --- The UAE is chaired the first meeting of senior officials of the Arab Social Affairs Ministerial Council which will discuss preparations for the 66th ordinary session of the Council's executive bureau to be held later this week.

Assistant Undersecretary at the UAE Ministry of Social Affairs Hussain Saeed Al-Sheikh who chaired the two-day meeting at the Arab League said the meeting coincides with the global agenda meetings for development in 2015.

The meeting Al-Sheikh noted will also discuss indices set by the United Nations to gauge the achievement of the post-2015 global agenda for sustainable development.

Other topics on the agenda of the Cairo meeting include preparations for the 4th Arab Social and Economic Development Summit to be held in Tunis in 2016 and preparations for 27th Arab Summit to be held in March 2016 in Morocco.

For his part Tareq Al-Nabulsi Officer of Technical Affairs at the Arab Social Affairs Ministerial Council noted that the forthcoming 66th ordinary session of the Council's executive bureau will discuss providing support and relief aid to Yemen reports on the Council's support for Syria neighbouring countries hosting Syrian refugees with a focus on the issue of 2000 Syrian children who fled to Jordan without identity documents.

Jordanian authorities Al-Nabulsi noted are planning to issue identity documents for these Syrian refugee children.

Other topics on the agenda include ways to protect Palestinian children and efforts to combat the issue of begging in Arab countries as well as a proposal from Oman to create a social studies centre to address pan-Arab social issues.
