Myanmar ships in 400,000 tons of palm oil

(MENAFN) According to an official report, Myanmar imported 400,000 tons of palm oil yearly to seal demand of edible oil as a substitute.

Additionally, the nation's edible oil consumption is 900,000 tons as opposed to only 500,000 tons produced from peanuts, based on the available figures.

It's also worth mentioning that the low edible oil production is mainly attributed to less number of peanut oil mills in operation national.

To overcome the shortage and meet the ever high demand, Myanmar has allowed private companies to import palm oil from Malaysia and Indonesia.
