Qatar- Sri Lankan woman's death: Court acquits three men

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The Doha criminal court has acquitted three men accused of killing a young Sri Lankan woman, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported.
However, one the acquitted men, a Sri Lankan expatriate, has been sentenced to one year in jail and ordered subsequent deportation, on charges of committing an action that violated public decency.
He was with his compatriot girlfriend in his car at Wadi Al-Sail area. Then, he saw the other two defendants, both GCC nationals, in another vehicle parked near their car. The Sri Lankan and his girlfriend left the car and tried to hide in a nearby deserted building, but the two followed them.
When asked by the two men why he ran away, The Sri Lankan said that he thought that they were police.
Meanwhile, the woman while trying to flee, fell down injuring herself severely. The two men hurried to help her and asked her what happened to her, but she could not answer. So, they called police and emergency service. Ultimately, they were all arrested on charges of killing the woman.
The court could not establish the guilt of any of the three accused as the forensic medicine report indicated that the victim died due to injuries sustained from the fall and there was no reference to an assault, the daily added.
