Qatar- 200,000 litres of fuel to benefit health sector in Gaza Strip

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Qatar Charity (QC) has provided 200,000 litres of fuel in order to facilitate the smooth functioning of the health sector in the Gaza Strip.
The fuel, which has been given to the Ministry of Health (MoH), will help operate generators at its facilities without any glitch and overcome the problems faced by these hospitals due to a severe electricity shortage, QC has said in a statement.
The fuel provided by QC to the local health ministry will allow its 13 hospitals, which have some 1,588 beds, to offer medical services to the people without any interruptions.
Noting that continuous power cuts could "greatly affect services offered to patients", Mohamed Abu Haloub, QC's office director in the Gaza Strip, said: "When the MoH in the Gaza Strip called for help, we, at QC, were quick in responding because we know how important the health sector is. QC has implemented this health project at a cost of QR1,205,000."
Dr Ashraf Abu Mahady, director-general of international co-operation at the MoH, expressed gratitude for QC's quick response to the urgent appeal from the ministry. "Our hospitals are severely suffering because of the shortage of fuel. I thank QC for its support and help. The 200,000 litres of fuel will help the hospitals continue offering medical services to citizens."
The contribution will enable the medical staff to offer health services in the ICU, OR, renal dialysis unit, reception, ER and the nursery. Primary care centres and ambulances will also benefit, the statement adds.
Electricity is out for more than 12 hours a day in the Gaza Strip, posing a big challenge to the health sector. It is necessary for the hospitals to use generators (needing around 360,000 litres of fuel a month) to make up for the daily 12-hour power cut at a cost of $530,000. Otherwise, the health sector will not be able to offer any services to the patients.
