Qatar- Fath Al Khier docks in India

DOHA: Cultural Village Foundation-Katara celebrated on Saturday the arrival of Fath al Khier 2 Voyage at Mumbai port.

Fath al Khier dhow was received by the General Manager of the Cultural Village Foundation-Katara Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim al Sulaiti Ahmed Ibrahim Al Abdullah Ambassador of the State of Qatar at New Delhi along with Vidyasagar Rao Governor of Maharashtra and Hamad bin Mohammad al Dusari Consul General of Qatar in India. Representatives of diplomate missions were also present during the event.

As Fath al Khier Dhow docked in front of the Gateway of India Mumbai traditional Indian music was played to announce the arrival of Fath al Khier in a warm welcome to the dhow that reflect the sublime meaning of ancestors heritage.

Addressing attendees at Taj Mahal Hotel of Mumbai Al Sulaiti said: “We are delighted to be here in Mumbai in India with which we have historic ties on all levels. Today the Cultural Village Foundation-Katara summons the beautiful history once again through this remarkable voyage. It recalls into our memory the journeys that our ancestors used to make in pursue of livelihood and trade more than 60 years ago.”



During his speech general manager of the Cultural Village pointed out that despite the long years we as Qataris still remember the warm welcome that Sheikh Ali bin Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani was given when he visited India in 1958. This Gate has honoured the heroic deeds of the great Indian nation and their struggle to protect its tradition and strength.

The shipmaster of Fath al Khier Dhow Hasan Essa al Kabbi unveiled the fact that the voyage from Sur port in Oman to India took 7 days and noted that the 30 people crew of Fath al Khier will leave India in few days and sail to Doha to witness launching sixth Katara traditional Dhow festival.

It is noteworthy that Fath al Khier 2 voyage to India has sailed from Katara Beach on the fifth of this month and docked in Sur port of Oman prior to its arrival to Mumbai.
