(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The Arab Centre for Research and Policy Studies (ACRPS) will hold a one-day academic symposium in Doha tomorrow, where experts from Russia, the Arab world and the region will deliberate Russia's decision to intervene directly in the conflict in Syria.
"Russia's Military Intervention in Syria: Motives, Objectives and Repercussions" will examine this development in light of more than four years of Russian diplomatic and military support for the Assad regime.
The action marks a turning point not only in the militarised revolution within Syria, but also in the broader Middle East and the larger global arena, a statement notes.
Conference presenters will explain the context in which this decision was taken, the reactions of regional and global actors with a particular interest in Syria and the implications for diplomatic efforts, which had seemed poised to reconcile combatants in Syria and end the conflict.
Such experts include Azmi Bishara; Burhan Ghalioun, Syrian intellectual and professor of political sociology at the Sorbonne University in Paris; Victor Mizin, leading researcher in the Moscow State Institute of International Affairs; Radwan Ziadeh, executive director of the Syrian Centre for Political Strategic Studies; Sergei Strokan, Moscow-based geopolitical analyst; and Majed al-Turki, head of the Centre for Media and Arab-Russian Studies.
The symposium will be held at Al Mukhtasar Hall, The Ritz-Carlton, from 8am tomorrow.
Simultaneous translation between Arabic and English will be available throughout the event.
