(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) The draft elections law under public debate is "the lynchpin" in the series of political reforms begun under the reign of His Majesty King Abdullah, Lower House Speaker Atef Tarawneh said.
"Expansion of the electoral constituencies stipulated by the draft is a great development and helps to transcend the social impact of the one-person-one-vote system", he said at a workshop organized by a national project to enhance the House's institutional and administrative capabilities.
He said the elections legislation, which had been widely controversial over the past years, should not be subject to constant change, but that work should be made to lay down the draft's basic structure and work closely to upgrade procedures that near optimum criteria in advanced world nations.
Head of the House Legal Committee, lawmaker Mustafa Amawi, said the panel had conducted a national dialogue and organized workshops on the elections law with civil society institutions, political parties, professional associations, politicians and women organizations.
He said the opinions, observations and proposals made about the bill were being considered to arrive at concord on the law by all social segments.
