Jordan- UNDP celebrates graduates of vocational training program


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in cooperation with Luminus group celebrated the graduation of 255 young men and women, who participated in its vocational training program "Training for Work". The program aimed to equip the beneficiaries with key skills needed to help them meet the demands of the job market.

The training, which was conducted at Al Quds College for beneficiaries from Irbid & Mafraq, focused on different components including life skills, computer skills, and English language education in addition to theoretical training on retails sales, industrial sewing, car mechanic and hospitality. Once the trainees reached the final phase of the program, they got the chance to have practical on job training and had the chance to apply the skills and knowledge they gained. Practical training was conducted with support of private sector especially Landmark Group, Oryx Hotel Aqaba and Maliban Clothing Factory.

UNDP Country Director, Zena Ali Ahmad, praised the graduates on their achievements and stressed the importance of the role they play in contributing to the progress of their local communities and the positive change they are capable of doing.

"This program which trained 524 young men and women is distinctive because it was designed to meet the needs of the local labor markets and the social conditions of its beneficiaries" said Ahmad.

She added that this specific program was established based on the "Vocational Training in the Jordanian Labor Market" report, which identified the needs of the Jordanian labor market.

Dean of Al Quds College, Ayman Maqableh, said that this program focused on building the capacities of the students to be able to enroll in the development of their local communities and to do a positive effective change.

It is worth mentioning that this initiative is a part of the "Mitigating the Effects of the Syrian Refugee Crisis on the Jordanian Host Communities" project which is led by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) especially in Irbid and Mafraq. The project focuses on promoting social cohesion between Jordanians & Syrians in hosting communities.
