Syrian president met Vladimir Putin in Moscow


(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) SyrianPresident Bashar al-Assad met late Tuesdayhis Russian counterpartVladimirPutin in Moscow the Kremlin said on Wednesday.

According to the Kremlin website the Russian president said terrorism in the Middle East and the destabilization of the region represented a concern for many countries.

"This is amatter ofconcern forRussia too given that sadly people from theformer Soviet Union around 4000 people atleast have taken up arms andare fighting onSyrian territory against thegovernment forces" said Putin. "Ofcourse we cannot let these people gain combat experience andgo through ideological indoctrination andthen return toRussia."

"Onthequestion ofasettlement inSyria ourposition is that positive results inmilitary operations will lay thebase forthen working out along-term settlement based onapolitical process that involves all political forces ethnic andreligious groups" he added. "Ultimately it is theSyrian people alone who must have thedeciding voice here."

MeanwhileBashar al-Assad expressed his gratitude towards Russia for its support.
