DGCA: Development projects of Kuwait's aviation estimated at USD six bln


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The total value of the development projects of Kuwait's civil aviation is estimated at USD six billion, Fawaz Al-Farah, President of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), said.
Addressing the conference and exhibition on airports' expansion that kicked off Tuesday, Al-Farah said that Kuwait's hosting of the event is part of the country's comprehensive development strategy that aims to materialize the vison of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on turning Kuwait as an international commercial and financial hub.
Among the targeted projects at the Kuwait International Airport are development of passenger terminal No. II and the eastern and western runways, and the establishment of a third one as well as the completion of the second phase of the cargo village and other projects, he said.
He added that the civil aviation is a key sector that contributes to achieving the country's economic development goals.
He said that the event is a chance to bring together experts from different parts of the continents across the world to share their experiences and views on developing services at airport.
Al-Farah noted that the DGCA is working on expanding its vision to make new successes through developing the current and future projects.
He said that huge developments that civil aviation, passengers and transporting goods are witnessing across the globe impose on all region's countries to promote their capabilities to improve services related to the aviation industry in line with the growth.
The DGCA works on achieving this goal through operating the airport, supervising its services as well as making maintenance of all facilities serving civil aviation, he made clear.
The DGCA was keen on organizing the conference to help participants provide the latest techniques and technological solutions that contribute to supporting projects related to airports' development and expansion, he said.
Al-Farah pointed out that the event will focus on the role of the private sector in developing the industry of this field as the conference and exhibition will contribute to opening horizons and opportunities to investors of the private sector in this regard.
On his part, Abdullah Al-Sharhan, CEO of Kuwait Airways, said that the company works on coping with the expansion process through developing and expanding its fleet up to 47 aircraft.
He added that next year will witness the replacement of 10 aircraft (Boeing 777) by airplanes of Airbus A340 model and Boeing operating on the existing network.
He further said that the company has signed a contract for the purchase of 15 A320neo aircraft that will be received in 2019-21 and then 10 A350-900 aircraft in 2020-22.
He expressed the company's appreciation to efforts being exerted to expand the terminal II which will be completed with five years. The two-day conference discusses challenges facing airports across the globe.
