(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Palestine on Tuesday called on the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Tuesday to "practically" pursue investigations on crimes committed by Israel against Palestinians.
"All international organizations need to shoulder responsibility to pressure Israel so as to abide by international legitimacy and end the last and longest occupation in the world," said Azzam Al-Ahmad, head of the Palestinian delegation to the parliamentary gathering.
"As parliamentarians, we need to have a bigger role in pushing for a just peace," he noted.
He also reiterated significance of fighting terrorism, regardless of shape, form or motive, as "ISIL and extreme Jewish settlers are no different ... Destroying temples and ruins in Mosul and Tadmur is as criminal as burning mosques and churches in Jerusalem and Tiberias.
"More than two years now, (Benjamin) Netanyahu's government have aborted all attempts to revive the peace process based on a two-state solution," Al-Ahmad said in reference to the ongoing violence in the Palestinian territories.
At the opening of the 133rd session of the IPU, which kicked off last Sunday, Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU) President and Kuwaiti National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim renewed a call for ousting Israel from IPU in reaction to its continuing insolence and brutality against the Palestinians.
Ejecting Israel from the IPU - as an outcast with crimes worthy of condemnation on the ethical, political and legal levels - is the least thing to be done in response to those criminals amid the Israeli insolence and the bloodshed in the occupied Palestinian land, Al-Ghanim told the general session.
