Jordan- PM meets Millennium Challenge Corporation CEO


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Prime Minister, Abdullah Ensour, on Monday met with the U.S. Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) CEO, Dana Hyde, who is currently visiting Jordan to participate in the opening ceremony of the second expansion project of Samra Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The meeting, which was attended by the ministers of water and Irrigation, planning and international cooperation and finance, focused on joint cooperation between Jordan and the MCC as well as water projects being implemented in the Kingdom with the support of the MCC.

Ensour emphasized the government's keenness to sustain cooperation with the MCC and promote its activities in the Kingdom and expressed appreciation for the U.S support provided to Jordan, especially to the Samra project which contributes to alleviating the water crisis in the Kingdom.

The premier spoke about the ramification of the Syrian crisis on Jordan, which is hosting 1.4 million Syrian refugees who are placing increasing pressure on the Kingdom's vital sectors, including water.

The U.S. official said that the Samra's second expansion project is a success story in the MCC's relation with the Jordanian government, indicating that what makes this project special, is that it is a partnership venture between the public and private sectors.

Hyde said that Jordan was awarded last year the best state for implementing projects funded by the MCC.
