Qatar- QC provides diesel for Gaza hospitals

(MENAFN- The Peninsula)DOHA: Qatar Charity (QC) has come to the rescue of public hospitals in Gaza Strip by providing huge stocks of fuel as they rely on diesel-fired generators due to a severe power crisis.

QC has donated 200000 litres of diesel to Gaza’s health ministry for use by hospital generators since an acute fuel shortage plagues the health sector.

An Israeli air strike on Gaza power plant in 2006 is to blame for the power crisis in the Strip where rolling blackouts can continue for hours.

There are 13 state-run hospitals with 1588 beds which will benefit from QC’s gesture which has cost over QR1.2m ($330000). QC has a permanent office in Gaza whose Director Mohamed Abu Haloub said the charity’s gesture aims to help the hospitals cope with any crisis they may face in treating emergency patients due to fuel shortage. The fuel can also be used by ambulances for emergency patients.

Dr Ashraf Abu Mahadi Director International Cooperation at Gaza’s ministry thanked QC for its humanitarian gesture. The 200000 litres of fuel provided by QC will come in handy for public hospitals.
