Jordan- 150 wanted people nabbed in police crackdown

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Some 150 people with criminal records of robbery, home theft and other offences, have been arrested in a week-long police crackdown in the northern Irbid governorate, a Public Security Department (PSD) source said.

It said the campaign was carried out in Irbid city almost daily over the past week and at the start of this week, during which the wanted men were apprehended and put in custody before being referred to judicial authorities.

The source said that the crackdown was carried out upon a directive by PSD Director-General, Gen. Atif Saudi, who had ordered zero-tolerance with criminals and vowed that the full force of the law will be applied against those perpetrating a criminal offense or assaulting people.

It said rescue police were still pursuing other wanted people to bring them to justice.

Last week, two fugitives were killed and 13 arrested in a police raid on their hideout in the Mafraq governorate in the country's northeast. The men were wanted on 135 counts of attempted murder, possession of automatic weapons, resisting security forces, drug trafficking and fraud.
