Jordan- Cabinet endorses new mechanism of securing foreign funding by NGOs

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) The Cabinet on Sunday endorsed a new mechanism regulating and streamlining the way non-governmental organizations and civil society institutions secure funding from foreign parties.

Under the new mechanism, the ministry of planning and international cooperation and the coordinating committee for humanitarian assistance affairs will act as referral bodies for any applications seeking foreign funding for the Syrian refugees and for the Jordanian national response plan to the Syrian refugee crisis.

The move aims to forge closer coordination between civil society institutions on one hand and foreign donors and concerned government bodies on the other. It also seeks to control this process and regulate the way non-profit organizations seek foreign financing for humanitarian or national development purposes.

Societies registered with the ministry of social affairs and willing to secure foreign funding or donation are now required to submit an official request identifying the source and value of the funding they want to receive in addition to identifying local partners and providing full details about the bank account to which the funding will be transferred.

They are also required to deliver full details about the project to which the funding will be channeled, its objectives, place and target segments. The applications shall be examined by concerned authorities and referred to the cabinet for final endorsement.
