(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) GCC Secretary General Dr. Abdul Latif Bin Rashid Al Zayani met today with the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed.
Ahmed briefed the GCC Chief on the contents of the UN Secretary General's message to Yemeni President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi included a call for convening onsultations between the Yemeni parties to resolve Yemeni crisis in line with implementation of the UN Security Council Resolution No. 2216.
The two sides welcomed the approval of the Yemeni parties to begin those consultations under United Nations auspices, to implement the UN resolution without preconditions.
They expressed their hope that these consultations would lead to a political solution on the basis of the GCC initiative and its executive mechanism and the outputs of the comprehensive national dialogue conference, t contributes to realization of security, peace and stability in Yemen.
The GCC Chief affirmed the Council's support for United Nations efforts in Yemen, praising the role played by the Special Envoy in this regard.
