Enthusiasts flock opening of Gitex Technology Week in Dubai

The 35th edition of Gitex Technology Week the region's most-awaited ICT showcase opened on Sunday at the Dubai World Trade Centre as a variety of buzzwords such as the "Internet Future of Everything" connected cloud big data mobility and security drew technology enthusiasts in droves.

Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council inaugurated the five-day show which is expected to draw more than 130000 visitors from over 140 countries including more than 20000 C-level executives.

"The event is not only a marker of Dubai's growth as a leading technology hub and smart city innovation but also signifies the region's steadily rising innovation-led development in the Internet of Things era from drones to robotics" said Helal Saeed Almarri director-general of the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing and director-general of the Dubai World Trade Centre Authority.

Almarri said Gitex would play a vital role in realising the Smart Dubai initiative. The event also sets the stage for the next level of technology investment and nationwide digital transformation across the region.

A wide range of new features of the latest smart city technology and a host of world-renowned speakers will underscore the UAE's leading role as a hub for best practices in technology and build momentum towards UAE Innovation Week in November and the country's Year of Innovation organisers said.

The show features next-generation of transformative at the new GTX Horizons Zone. On display are exhibitors across 3D printing autonomous vehicles drones and robotics featuring the world's leading drone manufacturer DJI and a selection of winners from this year's Drones for Good UAE Award along with partners DigiRobotics and Jacky's Business Solutions.

With more than 100 free-to-attend sessions and more than 150 thought leaders visitors can hear the latest in technology innovation from high-level speakers.

The event will continue to drive the innovation dialogue by hosting the world's largest Google CSI Lab All Night Hackathon Hot Stuff Awards Student Lab and networking platforms Connexions Majlis Connexions Lounge and Connexions Online.
