Qatar- Consumer Price Index /CPI/ Increases by 0.2% in September


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) The Consumer Price Index (CPI) of September, 2015 is estimated at 105.9, showing an increase (Month-on-Month basis) by 0.2% when compared to CPI of August 2015. An increase of 1.5% (Year-on-Year) in the index, has been registered Compared to CPI of September 2014, according to The Ministry of Development Planning & Statistics (MDPS) has released the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the month of September 2015. .

An analysis on Month-on -Month basis of CPI September, 2015 with August, 2015 indices shows that there are six main groups, where respective indices in this month have risen, namely: "Education" by 5.4%, "Housing, Water, Electricity and Gas" by 0.9%, "Clothing and Footwear" by 0.6%," "Food and Beverages" by 0.2%, "Furniture and Household Equipment" by 0.1%, and "Miscellaneous Goods and Services" by 0.3%.

A decline in prices is noticed in the other groups, namely: "Recreation and Culture" by 2.3%, "Transport" by 0.7% and "Restaurant and Hotels" by 0.3%. The other three groups: "Tobacco", "Health", and "Communication" have remained flat at the last month's price level. Figures (4) and (5) show the movement of monthly CPIs of "Food and Beverages" and "Housing, Water, Electricity and Gas".

A comparison of the CPI, September, 2015 with the CPI, September, 2014, points a rise in the general index (CPI), by 1.5%. This (Year-on-Year) price surge is primarily due to the increasing prices seen in the nine groups, namely: "Education" by 17.1%, "Tobacco" by 6.3%, "Transport" by 2.5%, "Housing, Water, Electricity and Gas" by 2.1%, "Food and Beverages" by 1.5%, "Clothing and Footwear" by 0.6%, "Restaurants and Hotels" by 0.2%, "Furniture and Household Equipment" by 0.3%, and "Communication" by 0.1%. Also, there has been a decrease in price levels in other groups, namely: "Recreation and Culture" by 3.6%, "Miscellaneous Goods and Services" by 1.2%, and "Health" by 0.1%. The CPI of September, 2015 excluding "Housing, Water, Electricity and Gas" group stands at 104.1, showing a stability when compared to the index of August 2015, and an increase of 1.4% in comparison to the CPI of September, 2014. Table (2) presents CPI excluding "Housing, Water, Electricity and Gas" .
