Yemen political process to resume soon, envoy

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) United Nations Special Envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed said the world body is keen on resuming the political process in war-torn Yemen soon to end the conflict through the unconditional implementation of Security Council resolution 2216.

The resolution demands that Yemen's Houthi militias withdraw from all areas seized during the latest conflict, relinquish arms seized from military and security institutions and cease all actions falling exclusively within the authority of the legitimate Yemeni Government.

The official Yemeni news agency reported that the UN envoy made the pledge to restart the political dialogue during a meeting he had with Yemeni Prime Minister Khaled Bahah in Riyadh last night.

The agency said the Riyadh encounter followed a meeting between Yemeni President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in the past days, which discussed preparations for dialogue to stop the bloodshed and destruction caused by the Iran-backed Houthis and allied forces of deposed president Ali Abdullah Saleh.
