Jordan, Mexico discuss parliamentary ties, regional developments


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Senate President First Deputy Faisal Al Fayez on Sunday discussed with Mexican Senate President Roberto Gil Zuarth, President of the Mexican Senate's Asia-Pacific Foreign Relations Committee,Teofilo Torres Corzo and Mexican Foreign Minister Claudia Ruiz Massieu, Jordanian-Mexican ties, ways to further boost them in various fields as well as the latest developments in the region.

Al Fayez, currently on an official visit to Mexico, upon an invitation from the Mexican Senate president, voiced Jordan's keenness to further strengthen ties with Mexico and capitalize on the positive results of His Majesty King Abdullah's visit to Mexico.

He also spoke about the challenges facing the Middle East including developments in Iraq and Syria, the continuation of the Israeli occupation of Palestinian lands as well as the influx of Syrian refugees into the Kingdom.

Senator Al Fayez highlighted investment opportunities in the Kingdom, mainly in the energy, tourism, transport and IT fields and called on Mexican businessmen to invest in the Kingdom.

Talks during the meeting also dealt with terrorism and extremism and ways of countering them.

Al Fayez and the Mexican Senate president signed a memorandum of understanding on parliamentary cooperation between Jordan and Mexico that calls for coordinating stances on various issues of common interest.

Senator Al Fayez also met with the Mexican foreign minister and discussed with her Jordanian-Mexican ties, the latest developments in the region and as well as international efforts to counter terrorism and extremism.
