At least 12 migrants drowned off Turkish coast


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) At least 12 migrants drowned after their boat sank in the Aegean Sea while they were attempting to reach the Greek island of Lesbos, Anadolu Agency reported on Saturday.
It said that the boat was carrying 48 refugees, most of them reportedly Syrians.
The Turkish coast guard rescued 25 refugees from the boat, which had set off from the Turkish resort town of Ayvacik, located in the western Canakkale province.
The coast guard crews have been searching for at least 11 other missing refugees.
According to an International Organization for Migration (IOM) report, almost 3,000 refugees have died crossing the Mediterranean Sea so far this year.
