Kuwaiti team visits geriatrics unit at Rumailah

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) received a delegation of senior officials from Kuwaiti health ministry's department of geriatrics healthcare services.
The visit was aimed at exploring the services being provided to elderly patients in Qatar by HMC as well as to explore the corporation's extensive experience in this field. During the visit, the delegation toured Enaya Specialised Care Centre in Hamad Bin Khalifa Medical City, and also visited the geriatrics and long-term care department at
Rumailah Hospital.
Dr Hanadi al-Hamad, chairperson of geriatrics and long-term care department at HMC, gave a presentation about Enaya services highlighting recent improvements and future development plans. She also discussed ways of strengthening collaboration with local organisations involved in geriatrics healthcare services in
Qatar.
The Kuwaiti delegation, headed by Dr Asya al-Hamdan, department chair of geriatrics healthcare services, also included Badria al-Azzamy and Najah al-Enezy. Present at the meeting were Dr Essa al-Sulaiti, consultant, geriatric medicine and medical director of Home Healthcare Services at HMC.
Dr al-Hamad said: "During my participation as a representative of Qatar in the Gulf Co-operation Council's committee on healthcare of elderly people, we received a letter from the General Secretariat proposing a visit from the Kuwaiti delegation to Qatar with the aim of exploring geriatric healthcare services in Qatar. The delegation also requested a visit to the elderly patients in their wards to have a closer look on our geriatric healthcare facilities and to benefit from our experience in this field."
Dr al-Hamdan stated that the delegation preferred to visit Qatar because the country is a neighbouring Gulf country that shares many customs and traditions with Kuwait. "Another reason is the excellent reputation Qatar has gained as a leading country in the field of geriatrics healthcare. By coming here, we wanted to learn from their experience in the field," she added.
Enaya Specialised Care Centre, geriatrics and long-term care department, and Home Healthcare Services are part of HMC's Continuing Care Group of services that provide specialist care for the chronically ill.
