GCC environment conf. opens in Doha


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The GCC general environment conference, being hosted by the Qatari Ministry of Environment kicked off here on Saturday and will last until October 28 with a host of topics on the agenda.
The activities of the event include convening the 40th meeting of the climate change group, the 18th meeting of the GCC committee on environment awareness and information, eighth meeting of the taskforce on ozone, the fifth meeting of the GCC network on land degeneration studies, the fourth meeting of the team of the GCC environment portal, and the 15th meeting of the standing committee on wildlife.
Today's discussions at the 18th meeting of the GCC committee on environment awareness and information included a general assessment of the first action plan of the committee and the progress in its works since the last meeting.
The 40th meeting of the climate change group discussed the agenda of the 21st Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP21/CMP11) as well as the national reports of the GCC states on climate change.
During the eighth meeting of the taskforce on ozone undersecretaries of the environment affairs departments of the GCC states reviewed the outcomes of the 36th Meeting of the Open-ended Working Group of the Montreal Protocol Parties (OEWG-36) - held in Paris in last July, and the agenda of the 27th Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol - to be held in Dubai on November 1-5.
The Qatari Ministry is also scheduled to host the 36th meeting of the undersecretaries of the environment affairs departments of the GCC states on October 26-27 and the 19th GCC environment ministerial meeting on October 28.
