DOHA: Carnegie Mellon University (CMUQ) has ranked 23rd in the best national universities category in US News & World Report’s 2016 list up two places from last year’s 25th. It also moved up two places from 24th to 22nd in the Times Higher Education (THE) world university ranking.

Consistently top-ranked in the report’s category of best undergraduate business programmes CMUQ moved up this year from eighth to seventh place. Its School of Computer Science remains in the top spot.

“The university rankings are a helpful benchmark to appreciate the quality of a CMU education: We offer a rigorous curriculum a global focus and a dedicated faculty. The calibre of our graduates and student body continues to raise the bar for prospective students” said Ilker Baybars Dean CMUQ.

The report ranking is based on 16 indicators of academic excellence including faculty strength first-year retention and graduation rates. University rankings have proven to be a useful resource guiding prospective students and parents through the university selection process. THE university rankings are an important resource providing a definitive list of the best global universities based on teaching research knowledge transfer and international outlook. While the report and THE are authoritative sources on overall university rankings other organisations rank according to specific programmes and educational elements. Carnegie Mellon was placed second in Animation Career Review’s top schools for game design/development in the US first in computer science in The Wall Street Journal’s job recruiter rankings and 13th on Business Insider’s list of best colleges in America.
