Shaikha Lubna Al Qasimi Minister for International Cooperation and Development has stressed that the UAE is a global model in providing emergency aid for victims of humanitarian and man-made disasters.

She added the UAE is committed to promoting development in affected countries such as Syria Yemen and Palestine through its national institutionalised development approach.

In a statement on the occasion of the International Day for Disaster Reduction celebrated worldwide to raise awareness of how people are taking action to reduce their risk to disasters Shaikha Lubna thanked the humanitarian approach of the UAE founding father the late Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and followed by the country's leaders today that the UAE is among the world's most generous countries.

The beneficiaries of Emirati humanitarian aid are victims of earthquakes and floods as well as political conflicts she added.

The UAE in 1971 established the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development to institutionalise its official aid efforts and this month launched the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives foundation with an annual budget of Dh1 billion to focus on four key areas: spreading knowledge; combating poverty empowering communities and innovation for the future.

"The leaders of the UAE never hesitate to provide aid and relief to any country hit by disasters without distinction based on the race sex or faith of victims."
