Shaikh Khalifa hospital ER receives 1000 cases in two months

The emergency department of Sheikh Khalifa Specialty Hospital in Ras Al Khaimah has received about 1000 emergency cases since its inception two months back.

According to a top official nine per cent of patients received treatment in the emergency department and were discharged after improvement while ten per cent were hospitalised for follow-up treatment.

Dr Myung-Whun Sung CEO of the hospital said they have agreed with the National Ambulance Service to deal with emergency cases in the cardiovascular neuroscience and oncology centers round the clock.

"Since the initial opening of the hospital in August the emergency department received 1000 cases."

Adding he said the medical and nursing staff includes 27 doctors. "These span six consultants four specialists 17 general practitioners and 52 nurses."

The department is also divided into five units including reception examination and clinical decision unit he elaborated. "The activated beds include five resuscitation beds ten examination beds 11 clinical decision beds and two isolation rooms."

Dr Sung underlined that a partial activation of the emergency department is being gradually opened. "The rooms are fully equipped to deal with any emergency or resuscitation day and night."

Up to 89 per cent of cases received treatment directly and were discharged after their health conditions became better he explained. "About ten per cent were admitted for follow up treatment."

Noting he said all staff aims to provide the best services for the UAE nationals and residents. "This wouldn't have been achieved without the support of the UAE prudent leadership."

Dr Sung indicated that 90 of the patients who were received in the emergency department were above 18 years old. "Most of the cases were in the cardiovascular neuroscience and oncology centers."
