Barzani meets US delegation

Erbil: President of Kurdistan Region of Iraq Masoud Barzani met on Wednesday with a US delegation headed by Senate Majority leader Senator Mitch McConnell and a number of other senators and members of the US House of Representatives according to Kurdistan Region Presidency website.

The delegation also included State and Defense department delegates.

During the meeting they discussed a number of topics most importantly the current war on Daesh.

On the other hand Barzani met earlier with UN Secretary-General's Representative for Iraq Jan Kubis and discussed with him the security and political developments in the region in light of the crisis witnessed by the Kurdish parties in addition to the situation in the region.

According to a statement issued by the presidency of the region Kubis stressed that the UN is ready to assist the Kurdish political parties to speed up the solution of the crisis demanding Kurdish parties to work more in order to achieve convergence among them.

Demonstrations had begun in Sulaimaniya demanding the payment of overdue Kurdistan Regional Government employees' salaries and then evolved into protests demanding the resignation of president Barzani whose mandate ended last August.
