Dubai woos transnational students

Dubai International Academic City (DIAC) is looking to expand its horizon to other countries.

Earlier this month DIAC participated in the largest student recruitment exhibition in Azerbaijan the A2 International Higher Education Fair.

When visiting the education fair DIAC delegates highlighted the number of courses offered by its institutions competitive tuition fees and attractive lifestyle all positioning Dubai as a leading international hub for higher education.

Azerbaijan is one of the fastest growing student-markets in Central Asia. The two-day education event took place in Azerbaijan's capital Baku and attracted over 5500 Azerbaijani students seeking undergraduate graduate and high school and language programmes abroad. DIAC currently provides more than 400 certificate diploma undergraduate post graduate and PHD programmes to over 24000 students of 145 nationalities which is a 20 per cent increase on total number of students from the previous year.

Azerbaijan has benefitted from economic growth from oil and gas exports enabling its government to invest heavily in international higher education.

The majority of enquiries from students involved questions about petroleum and computer engineering programmes and language courses.

Attendance at these educational fairs has helped DIAC understand the needs of prospective students.

The Trans-national education market in Dubai has expanded by 15 per cent in the last few years with revenues reaching $148 million according to research from the Parthenon Group.
