Lavrov: Only Syria has asked for Russian military support

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly)Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says no country besides Syria has asked Moscow for direct military support.

Lavrov said on October 14 that Russia was closely monitoring the situation in Iraq as well as Afghanistan but that only Syria had asked for direct support.

Speaking in Moscow Lavrov added any such requests if they are made will be decided on by President Vladimir Putin.

Lavrov also said the United States declined to send a high-level military delegation to Moscow to discuss deeper coordination in fighting in Syria as had been proposed by Moscow.

Lavrov said the proposal was made by Putin during his visit to New York in late September.

He said the idea also included sending a Russian delegation headed by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev to the United States as a second step.

Lavrov said Washington also told Moscow it won't be receiving the Russian delegation.
