Hyundai Motor's Monthly Sales Hit Record High in Europe


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Hyundai Motor Co.'s sales in Europe hit a record monthly high in September, buoyed by strong demand for its Tucson sport utility vehicle (SUV), data showed Wednesday.

The South Korean automaker's sales reached 50,510 units in the European market last month, up 5.4 percent from a year earlier, exceeding its previous record monthly sales of 48,215 units in March, according to the data compiled by the automaker.

The September sales were mostly driven by an increase in demand for its face-lifted SUV, which went on sale in Europe in June. Hyundai Motor sold 9,309 units of its revamped Tucson in Europe last month, compared with 3,350 units in August and 2,309 in July.

When its old version is counted, a total of 12,915 Tucson SUVs were sold last month, sharply rising 27 percent from a year earlier, the data showed.Hyundai's other models - the i10 and the i30 - also drew strong demand there with 10,053 units and 14,478 units sold, respectively.

Hyundai's sister firm, Kia Motors Corp., sold a total of 39,976 units in Europe last month, up 9.2 percent from a year earlier. Its record monthly sales were 44,478 units in March.
